    Fun Safety Glasses

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

158340202_bc2be8571a1Instructor Eric Okon teaches Jewelry and Metals at Oakland Community College located in Michigan. In the photo he is wearing a pair of safety glasses that his college students designed for him.

Eric’s picture captured my attention immediately since I like to “spiff up” my own safety glasses. Eric’s glasses are bedazzled - gotta love a little bling!

My favorite pair has flowers and butterflies. It’s a great way to keep my husband’s hands of my safety glasses when he misplaces his own. I would think it would be great at the workplace to make it clear which pair is yours.

Have you personalized your safety glasses? Send me a picture!*

*Safety Reminder for the Oblivious: It’s important to make sure that designs don’t inhibit your eye sight. You don’t want to cause an accident because you can’t see.

    Indoor/Outdoor Safety Glasses: Multi-Purpose Favorites!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sassy Safety Queen's Tri Training Favorite

Sassy Safety Queen's Tri Training Favorite

I have to share about my new favorite, multi-purpose safety glasses - Elvex Avion Indoor/Outdoor Safety Glasses. They are great for many reasons but I LOVE Indoor/Outdoor safety glasses because I don’t need to have tons of pairs lying around to meet different needs.

Besides being great for yard projects where I am going in and out of sunny areas or in and outside, I have also been using them for biking! I am training for a triathlon and I am riding outside regularly. I need to keep the wind, sun and bugs out of my eyes (especially important for contact wearers like me). The Indoor/Oudoor Safety Glasses have enough sun reflection to keep the sun off my eyes but are clear enough to keep wearing when the sun goes behind the cloud so that I don’t have to worry about them being too dark. Who wants to lug around extra stuff like another pair of glasses? I don’t like really dark sun glasses for biking anyway - I save those for boating.  Also, Elvex’s Avion has a snug fit that’s not too tight.

    DeWalt Safety Glasses

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DeWalt has been making safety glasses for several years now, but I’m always surprised to find out how many loyal DeWalt users and carpentry workers don’t know they exist.  So here’s a brief look at some awesome glasses backed by a top notch brand.

The glasses are manufactured by Radians, and have a nice range of price.  It’s also important to point out that the quality is very respectable.  Trust me, I have no qualms about throwing a manufacturer under the bus, and I don’t like getting close enough to people’s asses to blow smoke up them.  So here are three of the styles I like…

The DeWalt Protector is you low end safety glasses, but they are extremely well made.  I was really impressed by the quality for a basic style like this.  You can get cheaper glasses, but the quality won’t match this specimen.

The DeWalt Reinforcer RX is a very stylish pair of bifocal safety glasses.  For a long time the word style and bifocal never went together.  This is one of the first styles to bridge the gap.  It still holds up nicely and has good number of comfort features.

The DeWalt Ventilator is the high end pair of safety glasses from DeWalt.  It borrows a bit from the AO Safety Fuel (as far as style is concerned), but the price is way better.  Take a look at this style if your having compliance issues.  It might help out.

    So there you go.

Orange County Choppers and Safety Glasses

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wanted to take this post to let you know about brand of safety glasses you may not have known existed… Drumroll… O. C. C….

Yep, Safety Glasses Inc.  stocks Orange County Choppers Safety Glasses and they are sharp.  They’re manufactured by AO Safety, so they’ve got that going for them.  Secondly, most of them have slick metal frames and are as sturdy as Aunt Mildred’s 3-point stance.

These babies are full of fashion, and are a fraction of the cost of other designer safety glasses.  Did I mention that they look stupendous? They do.  So check them out.  And as a little bonus here’s a little introductory video we put together a year or so ago.

    Safety Glasses and a Recession

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are we in a Recession?  Apparently.  Oh well.  Here’s the thing though.  In tough times, individuals and companies are looking for any way to save a buck.  They start cutting things.  Unfortunately, in our haste and panic we often cut the wrong things.  Safety is not an area to cut out.

It is possible to save money, and still provide your employees with safety gear to keep them out of harm’s way.

Look, I love the Wiley X safety glasses as much as the next guy. They look awesome, and I’m pretty damn sure they improve compliance.  However, there are less expensive models available that keep your eyes just as safe.  Hell, you can get a ton of safety glasses for under $4 a pair.

Remember you can save money by changing the style, but don’t cut out safety all together.  You’ll regret it for the rest of your life if something happens.

    Indoor/Outdoor Safety Glasses

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recently I was asked about Indoor/Outdoor Safety Glasses so I dug through Frank’s Reports (the one on lens colors) and chopped out the portion about I/O lenses. Thanks for your question!

The indoor/outdoor lens is actually a clear lens with a mirrored coating.  The mirrored coating reflects sunlight and glare, which cuts down on eye fatigue and strain.  It provides protection in the sun, but because of its clear lens and the high amount of visible light that passes through, this lens is effective inside as well.

The unique nature of this lens helps your eyes adjust when moving from a shaded area to a bright area and vice versa.  Without these this lens it’s like a punch in the face every time you go in and out. This lens is ideal for individuals that work outside, but take a large number unnecessary breaks inside.  Indoor/Outdoor lenses allows individuals to wear the same pair of safety glasses for indoor and outdoor applications.  The most important thing to remember is to make sure that the door is shut when the air conditioner is on.

The indoor/outdoor lens can be used for most applications, whether they’re inside or out. They work best for individuals moving from shade to direct sunlight and back again.  You know… people who have trouble making up their mind.
