    Preventing Suspension Trauma

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Previously in this crazy universe we’ve talked a bit about suspension trauma.  Which is, as they say, a tricky bitch problem.  Let’s face it, if you’re left hanging for 15 minutes, you could be toast.  And by toast I mean dead, not a baked piece of bread.

So, what can you do?   First, suspension trauma isn’t that hard to combat.  There are several products available to help you in your quest.

    The French Creek U-Res-Q:
This handy dandy is basically a lanyard with a little sack hanging to the side… uh… anyway, in the case of a fall, a little ladder pops out and the worker is able to rescue himself.

    Tripod with Rescue Unit:
This is basically a tripod with a winch in order to lift a fallen worker.  Pretty simple… sorry.

    SafeWaze Rescue Ladder:
This ladder is attached to an anchor point and thrown down to a fallen worker to climb.  Again, a very basic concept.

    SafeWaze Rescue Step Safety Device:

This little sack is attached to a lanyard and is deployed by the fallen worker.  It isn’t a full ladder, but it allows the worker to step up and relieve pressure caused by suspension trauma.

So, which one is best… Mmmm… Well, it really depends on your unique situation.  However, I can tell you that you need to do something.  There’s nothing worse than knowing the harness did it’s job, but you didn’t do yours.

What do you use as rescue equipment?  Let us know!
